Wellfoods Chairman receives MBE in 2011 New Year Honours

Wellfoods on Tour.

We visit Coeliac events throughout the UK mainland from local coeliac group food fairs to coeliac clinics at a hospital and national events.

In 2010, we have visited Cumbria, Liverpool, York for the premier event of the year, Gloucester, Boston, Edinburgh, Cleveland, Doncaster, Wrexham, Biggleswade, Peterborough, Leicester, and last one...Penrith.

The events, large or small,  are always good...as we have an opportunity to meet with Coeliacs first hand.  Knowledge gained does enhance products and services.

We were asked for a sliced loaf...and launched in May 2008. Other items have been asked for...and the Development team here at the Bakery are busy...watch this space for news.

If you are a Coeliac, whether you are a brand newly diagnosed, or have been Gluten free for 40 years, there is always an opportunity for increasing knowledge, trying new items and brands, meeting old friends and making new ones.

Gluten Free Food Fairs

The UK's largest Gluten free Food Fair is held as an annual event at York, usually on a Saturday in mid-May, at the Bar Convent, Blossom St, York.

Its conveniently situated all of 200 yards from the Railway Station in a beautiful red brick Georgian building.

This year, Wellfoods was assisted by Mr John Foster, the Chairman of Fosters Bakery, (the parent company of Wellfoods) and Mr Kevan Beaumont. In a 5 hour period, the event had over 1200 visitors.

Prior to the event, the Pizzas had been awarded the 2010 Free From Foods Award from Foods Matter Magazine.  John and Kevan were kept very busy baking pizzas, to cope with the numbers of visitors eager to sample the acclaimed Pizza for themselves.

Clinic Visits

Many Hospitals do run Coeliac clinics where parents and carers visit the dieticians to learn of managing the practical aspects of Coeliac disease within a family situation.

A very "different" Coeliac clinic that Wellfoods was privileged to visit was at Lincoln County Hospital. The atmosphere was relaxed, with the children busy within a "Play-group" setting, until the dietician needed to speak with each individual (and parent/carer). The "Grownups" sampled foods from a variety of producers and had chance to discuss their child's individual likes/dislikes.

Much of the development work for this style of Coeliac clinic was the brainchild of the late Ms Edwina Overton. Her work has been successfully replicated..she sadly cannot have known the difference she has made to the younger Coeliacs in the Lincoln area..

On the Photo gallery...a selection of photos taken at the events.

The events calendar for 2011 is already filling. Watch for details of where you can meet with Wellfoods....and we look forward to meeting you.
